It Takes A Village & Buddha

Today is our final day on the cruise and what a fun morning we had! We started by going to the Twin Holy Mountains “Phnom Pros & Phnom Srie” to visit the temple and Buddha Garden.  In Cambodia, apparently anything higher than our ship (3 decks) is considered a mountain.  There are wild monkeys at Twin Holy Mountains so they told us to not pet them (didn’t have to tell me twice) and to keep bottled water hidden as they love it and will come steal it from you.  Taking water not a problem, however, if they scratch you…problem.

Our next stop was a village sponsored by AMICA organization which helps villages in Cambodia.  This village is also sponsored by Viking…latest addition was toilets by the school and community shop.  In the community shop, residence sell their crafts and keep 75% of the proceeds…the other 25% goes to the community to help with project to benefit everyone.  The kids love seeing foreigners and came running to us…I’m sure the fact we had candy for them had nothing to do with it!  The kids have school in the afternoon so they were all about playing this morning and sang us some songs.  After our entertainment, they took us by the hand and walked around the village with us.

The final stop of the day was to see the bamboo bridge being built.  Every year when the waters get low after rainy season (May to October), the locals build a bamboo bridge to connect the other side of the river.  The bridge is strong enough for cars and once the waters start to rise, it is torn down.

LuLu and I spent the afternoon just chilling and finishing up packing for our 7:45AM disembarkation tomorrow.
