Tchau e Obrigada Lisbon...Até logo!

The day has finally arrived when we must go home.  This holiday was exactly what we both needed and in the place we needed to be.  Portugal is a beautiful country with some of the most friendly people I think we have ever met.

Over the course of the past 13 days, we walked 131,670 steps (61.34 miles) and climbed 113 flights of stairs.  Given all the amazing food and wine we drank, it’s a good thing we were on the move.

A few last looks of the city from up high.

It has been another fabulous AOH adventure and in typical fashion, we have started talking about 2019.  Spoiler alert...we’re thinking Prague and Budapest.

A last look at Lisbon

Sadly today is our last day in Lisbon so after a leisurely morning sipping coffee, we headed to Confeitaria Nacional for lunch and to try out their pastries.  My flight attendant from Charleston to JFK said this place was a MUST in Lisbon as it is delicious as well as being the oldest bakery in town.

Downstairs is a small bakery but if you head upstairs, you’ll find a small dining room with table service as well as a small cafeteria.  We opted for the table service and had a delicious lunch and of course followed it with one of their oh so good desserts and double espresso.

For those of you that may not know, Portugal produces about half the cork in the world and you can make just about anything from cork.  Here’s just a small sampling of things you can make…

We made our way to St. Anthony Church but our first stop was Church of Santa Maria Maior…we thought we had found St. Anthony’s church but this was a nice surprise.

We realized after visiting the churches we had seen a lot of the city via taxis, trams and buses but never really got a good overview tour so we headed back to Rossio train station to get on a Grayline hop-on/hop-off tour for a loop.  What a great decision as the loop took us to other parts of town as well that we had not seen!  We got to see the more modern part of town as well as some of the places we had already visited.  As we were pulling in to one of the stops, imagine our surprise as saw Lelia’s aunt and uncle (the folks we had dinner with on Tuesday)!!

Here are some of the pics from our ride around town…

One of the stops on the loop was the Mercado Riberia (aka Time Out Market) so we hopped off after we had completed the loop and had dinner since it was the closest stop to our apartment.  Once again the place was packed but we scored a table where we had a great pizza followed by some gelato.  We also picked up a couple Pastéis de Nata for breakfast in the morning.

Boa noite as it is time to start packing!
