A Buddhist Blessing

After yesterday’s visit to the Killing Fields and Detention Center, today’s visit with monks at the Udong Monastery was a much welcomed experience. We received a blessing by the monks and were able to have our photos taken with them.  There are specific instructions when in the presence of monks.  You are not allowed to touch their cloths as if you do, they have to be purified and you give them food that they do not have to kill as that is against their beliefs (they can eat meat, they just can’t kill it).

Buddhist Flag: Blue for Compassion for All, Yellow for Balance and Liberation , Red for the Blessings of Buddha’s Teachings, White for Purity, and Orange for Wisdom.

After the monks receive their food, the nuns are then given food.

On our way back to the ship, we stopped in the silversmith and jewelry village of Koh Chern to see how they make some of the local products.  Pumpkins are everywhere and a symbol of prosperity so we bought a copper on…maybe we’ll win the lottery now!

Our afternoon was free so we took a Tuk Tuk to the Central Market to wander around then came back for a lecture on the history of Cambodia.  It is definitely nice to have some leisurely days and not be on the go so much!
