Toto, we’re in Kansas

Today we headed further west to Stockton, Kansas to visit Moma’s sister and her family. En route, we saw a sign for The Holy Family Shrine just outside of Lincoln, Nebraska and decided to take a peek. We weren’t quite sure if we were going to end up at someone’s house as the signs pointed us down a dirt road. Imagine our excitement as we saw this beautiful building!  As we had a long drive ahead of us (even though GPS said 4 hours, I knew it would be more because we were going to pull out the map and go back roads), we didn’t stay very long but do plan to visit their website to learn more about the history.

We were really hoping to see a lot of cute little towns on our journey and some different scenery from the interstate so we took some country roads. Well we were fooled because the scenery on the back roads is the same as the interstate…CORN!

We did drive through some little towns and let me tell you if you blinked you would totally miss them. It was sad to see most of them were closed down…only the occasional gas station was open.

When we arrived at my aunt and uncle’s around 5:15pm, the temp was 100!  But don’t worry, it’s a dry heat!! After a delicious dinner of some of the best steak we’ve ever had and chatting and talking about family history, we laid our heads down to rest. Lavinia has arranged for a barn quilting class for us tomorrow and we can’t wait!
