A Little Trip Along Route 66

We’ve going non-stop since we got to Des Moines and so we decided to make today a chill day.  This afternoon, we took a little ride along Route 66 to Davenport, OK.

We passed through a few little towns that we missed because we blinked and a few others that were a little bigger. One of the towns had a population of just over 400!

It was only fitting we saw a lot of USMC flags today as today was our first Father’s Day without Daddy. In one of the little towns, there was a Marine club so of course we had to get some pics.

As we were entering Davenport, we saw Tammy’s Round Up Cafe and stopped in for a bite. The couple at the table next to us was from West Virginia and gave us some tips for our trip there in November.

Davenport is half way between Tulsa and Oklahoma City and is famous for the brick paved Broadway (Main Street) and their murals depicting the 1891 Land Run.

Next on our list was The Golden Driller. It is a 75-foot-tall, 43,500-pound statue of an oil worker and built from a steel frame, covered with concrete and plaster. They are doing construction at the Expo Center where it is located so we couldn’t get up close.

We’re spending the evening doing facials and drinking wine. Tomorrow we head to our final stop…Little Rock.
