The Road to Omaha

Today we said farewell to Des Moines and headed to Omaha.  We started on the interstate but eventually got off the big roads and took back roads (LuLu is getting good at reading maps!!).  Just outside of Des Moines is the Iowa Veterans Cemetery so we stopped to pay our respects.

We noticed several wives also buried with their husbands.

Once we got on the back roads, we saw A LOT of corn and surprisingly a lot of windmill farms.

One of the little towns we drove through was Greenfield and it was so cute.  Too bad we were there on a Sunday as everything was closed.

Most of the other "towns" along the way were the size that when you blink you've missed it.  If we had followed GPS from Des Moines to Omaha, the drive would have only taken us a little over two hours.  Our route ended up taking us seven hours...fortunately we were on paved roads the whole way!
