Paris: Macroons, Chocolate Chaud et Dîner avec des amis

Today was all about food...we started the day learning to make macroons, lunch and hot chocolate at Angelina and our final VizEat with Michele and Patrice.

I absolutely adore French macroons and was so excited to take a class to learn how to make them.  Now that I know all the steps and time that goes into making these pillows of happiness, I have an even fonder appreciation for them and the chefs that prepare them.  We took a class at La Cuisine de Paris and our instructor was Guillaume...he was terrific!!  We made both Italian and French merigunes with four different fillings (raspberry, chocolate, pistachio and caramel)...and we walked away with about 20 macroons each!  Here are some pictures from the day along with some of the new friends we made.

Angelina is famous for their hot chocolate and after our visit, we can completely understand why.  Heaven in a cup is the best way to describe it.  We started with onion soup, Quiche Lorraine (me) and Foie Gras Salade (Julie) and for dessert...chocolat chaud.  It is served with the crème fraîche on the side so you can determine the sweetness of the chocolate.

Dinner tonight was with Michele and Patrice in the 13th arr.  They were so much fun and took such great care of us!  Michele is a biochemist and Patrice is a Ph.D. in labs but now going back to get his MD to study geriatrics.  We began with aperitif of Prosecco and Aperol along with a black radish cream, nuts and dried fruits from India and a sardine spread...all delish.  For dinner, our started was a puff pastry filled with foie gras and onion chutney and salad, followed by guinea hen with mushrooms and gratin, then came the cheese, wouldn't be a French dinner without it, and for dessert...birthday cake.  Of course, there was wine paired with everything that was all so good and a fabulous port with dessert.
